CROMWELL SIXTH FORM

Cromwell Sixth Form offers the opportunity to build on the skills and knowledge developed during secondary education:

-       Learning the skills to be effective in the world- Communication, optimising Independence, Working with Other People, Problem Solving

-       Learning to be confident, caring, safe citizens

The Sixth Form provides both continuity with school-based pastoral, health and SEN support and the challenge of preparing for adulthood in all its contexts;

-       accessing the community

-       as a contributor to society

-       at home

-       personal development, health and wellbeing

We provide 3 pathways for pupils with

-       Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties

-       intensive Autism and/or severe learning difficulties

-       more independent pupils with complex needs

Above all the Sixth Form retains our school’s core principle; to challenge and support pupils to progress as far as they can.

Age range 16-19. Admission by EHCP

AFTER CROMWELL

All our pupils achieve education up to 16 years old and many stay into our Sixth Form until the end of the school year in which they are 19 years old. Some pupils may move onto different provision from the age of 16 years. When the time comes to move on to further college courses we have very strong links with Aspirations Victoria and  Aspirations (formerly Dovestones), a specialist unit at Tameside College, who offer a place to some of our pupils from 16-19 years.

Other pupils have moved on to:

- Works4U

- Newbridge Key Stage 5 Oldham

- Active Tameside

Each year some of our pupils move on to colleges and school supports the process of finding just the right post 16, or post 19, provision for each pupil and a ensuring high quality transition to the next step in their education wherever that may be. Indeed, transistion can be at any year post 16 when the student is ready. All parents receive support through this process from an organisation called "Positive Steps" that provides independent support and guidance for young people and their families.

Transition (done well) can be a tremendously positive experience and can really provide the impetus to grow and develop to a far greater extent than would be possible staying the same institution for too long. Certainly, we see rapid progress in most of pupils as they move up to us from Primary School and the same can be true at post 19 (or post 16 if appropriate).

For pupils who do so well during their time at Cromwell that they become able to access opportunities in the mainstream college with the appropriate help, Tameside College offers a "Pathways" approach.
