Speaking and Listening
Communication is at the heart of everything we do at Cromwell and pupils are taught to maximise their skills of speaking and listening. With the advice and support of our Speech and Language Therapist pupils are given targets to develop to maximum of their ability.
Para-verbal Skills
Communication is about much more than what we say: it's the way that we say it! It is extremely important to learn the appropriate body language and social skills to go with the abilty to express verbally.
Independence Skills
Independence is about far more than the physical skills involved in everything from dressing to housework. The key element to independence is being able to think for yourself about what is needed at any given time! We all either ask for help or commission other people to do jobs we can't do ourselves, but the important thing is that we know what needs doing in the first place and act to make it happen. Independence starts with independent mobility and the ability to be aware of risks and how to minimise them.
Friendships
The most important thing in life is the relationships with have with other people. Pupils will learn about the different forms of relationships and how to enjoy healthy relationships in their life.
