Intensive Interaction

Intensive Interaction:

Some pupils, people say, live in their “own little world”. Intensive Interaction is a series of strategies to try to reach pupils who have a tendency to shut out the interactions of other people. It means meeting them half way- joining in their world through letting them take the lead and imitating their sounds and movement- engaging in turn taking- and generally being interested in what they are interested in no matter how strange to us (unless it is completely socially unacceptable). Over time pupils return the compliment and will become interested in and develop the awareness and confidence to join us in our world including social interactions.
