Vocational Education & Life Skills

Preparation for the wider world, both for the present and as pupils grow into young adults, is one of our main principles. This begins, step by step, as soon as a pupil comes to our school but really takes off when pupils move into Key Stage 4.

Within Key Stage 4 pupils study the ASDAN qualification called "Life Skills" and pupils - other than those with Profound and Mulitiple Learning Difficulties and extreme Health Difficulties- spend one day a week out of school in "Alternative Curriculum" provision with local training providers. Supported by their usual Teaching Assistants and fully quality assured by school, pupils learn to work with unfamiliar adults in unfamilar surroundings to vocational aims. It is a highly effective stimuli for personal growth and maturation and a thorough preparation for college after school.
