Vocational Education & Life Skills

Preparation for the wider world, both for the present and as pupils grow into young adults, is one of our main principles. This begins, step by step, as soon as a pupil comes to our school but really takes off when pupils move into Key Stage 4.

Within Key Stage 4 pupils study the ASDAN qualification called "Life Skills" and the majority pupils spend one day a week out of school in "Alternative Curriculum" provision with local training providers.  Supported by their usual Teaching Assistants and fully quality assured by school, pupils learn to work with unfamiliar adults in unfamilar surroundings to vocational aims. It is a highly effective stimuli for personal growth and maturation and a thorough preparation for college after school.

Once pupils reach the Sixth Form at Cromwell their curriculum is based on vocational skills and life skills to help them ready themrselves for life after school.  Pupils study the topics of -

  • Social Life
  • Home Life
  • Professional Life
  • Healthy Life
  • Active Life
  • Creative Life

In addition pupils study at Linnet Clough Scout Campsite one day every week where they expore the outdoors, prepare their own lunches.
