Safeguarding

Safeguarding and the protection of our pupils is at the heart of everything we do. We risk assess activities and situations of additional risk - especially Educational Visits - and we make sure that our building is secure and that all our staff are properly checked and following proper procedures to fully minimise any risk to our pupils.

We follow all the Child Protection procedures as laid down by the local Safeguarding board. In most cases, this will mean that, if a pupil appears to have had an injury or suffered any harm, we will speak in partnership to parents to seek to understand the situation and - where there is a need - make it better. We work in close partnership with ISCAN (Integrated Service for Children with Complex and Additional Needs - including their Behaviour Support Team and Nursing Team) and together we will do our utmost to help families who are in need of support to care successfully for our pupils with complex needs. Our first priority will always remain keeping every pupil safe and protected from significant harm.

Our Designated Safeguarding Lead is Mr Andrew Foord and our Deputies are; our Welfare Manager, Mrs Sarah Dockray (for the whole school) and Heads of Department for the pupils in their department. All our staff have an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, Child Protection and Safeguarding Training and, in line with government requirements, we train regularly to identify and protect pupils from Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE), on-line dangers (E Safety), early protection from extremism (PREVENT) and female genital mutilation (FGM).
