Sensory Strategies

 Sensory Room & Soundbeam:

We have a Sensory Room in school complete with bubble tubes, the infinity tunnel, switch operated lighting and sound effects. We also have a Soundbeam machine whereby pupils can play music simply by moving. The machine can be set to react to different sized movements from turning your head to moving in and out in a wheelchair or by walking.

Resonance Boards:

The reaction of some pupils to Resonance Boards is amazing. The idea is simple- to feel vibrations- especially sound vibrations- through a sensitive wooden platform- but the effect can be stunning. The boards get sensory stimulation through into the pupil’s whole body.

Parachute:

The colours, the breeze, the feel of the cloth, the sound of material flapping and the social interactions generated by Parachute games mean that this is a valuable aid in stimulating pupils and generating communication and reactions to the environment.

Rebound Therapy:

School has a full size trampoline and staff have been trained to deliver rebound therapy. Pupils learn about their bodies in space and how their own movements can be magnified by the trampoline. The fun to be had also generates great opportunities for developing communication.
