Science and the Physical World

Science is taught as part of our curriculum area entitled "Physical World". Here is it combined with Design & Technology and Physical Geography in a series of modules designed to explain to pupils how the physical world works.

Each module takes a common experience in the everyday lives of pupils and tells the "back story" of how these things come to be including sensory stories telling that story. For example- pupils experience electric lights going on and off each day- how does this happen? Pupils will experiment with simple switches and electrical devices.  Other modules include the story of "Food", "Water", "Moving Toys", "Day and Night". Some pupils will be able to remember the "stories" about how the physical world is organised, for others they will learn associations of what goes behind their everyday experiences and for pupils with more profound and multiple learning difficulties they will benefit from the new sensory stimulation that is prompted by the sensory stories of the wider world. These modules are accredited through the AQA exam board unit accreditation scheme.
